On October 2, the newest Intrepid Spirit Center opened on Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The Center, the second of nine satellite facilities of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, is one of two planned for North Carolina; the second will be located at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville. The mission of the clinic is to combat the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI), both considered signature wounds of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The new clinic has the capacity to assess more than 1,000 patients a year, providing holistic multidisciplinary care.
