The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has approved new regulations that will make it easier for veterans to receive additional disability pay for conditions related to traumatic brain injury. The change in regulations is the result of findings in the Institute of Medicine report, Gulf War and Health, Volume 7: Long-Term Consequences of Traumatic Brain Injury. The new regulations will take effect in January 2014 and are expected to affect some Veterans living with TBI who also have Parkinson’s disease, certain types of dementia, depression, unprovoked seizures, or certain diseases of the hypothalamus and pituitary glands.
