On January 15, at a ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the start of Operation Desert Storm, Governor McCrory announced that the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will distribute a $100,000 memorial fund to the state’s Museum of History.
The fund was a gift from the Kuwaiti Government in 1992 as seed money for a larger memorial. For a variety of reasons, the effort stalled and the money sat unused for 24 years, until now. The fund will be distributed to the Museum of History on the 25th anniversary of the start of Operation Desert Storm on January 17, 2016. The money will be used to develop a traveling exhibit honoring and memorializing the first Persian Gulf War.
