On May 25, the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the NC Veteran’s Business Association, SAS, and multiple partners hosted the 2016 Women Veterans Summit & Expo at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center, North Carolina State University, in Raleigh. While the goal of the Summit is Empower. Educate. Enrich., this year’s theme is Sharing Stories, Making History. The conference featured keynote speaker and award-winning author Tracy Crow, who provided copies of her book, On Point: A Guide to Writing the Military Story, to all Women Veterans. Breakout sessions addressed entrepreneuship; career coaching and resume writing; wellness through the arts; MyVA communities; understanding the corporate environment; and a panel on state and federal benefits. The conference also showcased 60 exhibitors that included federal and state agencies, higher education, and community services and resources. About 350 individuals attended, and consensus indicated success in bringing together Women Veterans who shared their stories and created a network of individuals and agencies committed to their health and well-being.
