Established in December 2014, NC STRIVE (Student Transition Resource Initiative for Veteran’s Education) is dedicated to supporting the student Veteran’s successful integration into community college, college, and university campuses through seamless access to state and community services, supports, and resources; VA healthcare services and Veteran’s benefits; Vet Centers; on-campus supports and state resources. NC STRIVE is a coalition of federal and state agencies, 2-year and 4-year public and private colleges and universities, and veteran advocacy organizations.

In 2015, 200 individuals attended the statewide conference at the NC National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, which examined the needs of student Veterans at their schools to determine how to best utilize limited resources and to share best practices (e.g., Green Zone training, Veteran Centers, Student Veteran Associations, collaboration with Vet Centers). In 2016, 218 individuals attended the statewide conference at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford. The 2016 theme focused on the transition of Veterans at three junctures: DoD to VA care; military to academic life; academic life to career, including services and resources and tips to succeed.

Following the 2016 conference, the Statewide Steering Committee decided to hold three regional conferences so that more college and university personnel could attend and benefit from lessons learned in NC. Each regional conference is directed by a planning committee. The three regional conferences are as follows:

Johnson C. Smith University Haywood Community College Wake Tech Community College
Charlotte Clyde Raleigh
