SAMHSA held a conference on Meeting the Behavioral Health Needs of Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF) through Workforce Development so that State teams could learn strategies for increasing the skills of the behavioral health workforce to provide services and supports for military-connected individuals.

Flo Stein, Deputy Director of the NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services led a four-person team that included John Harris, NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services; Ron Mangum, University of North Carolina School of Social Work Behavioral Healthcare Resource Program; and Wei Li Fang, Ph.D., Governor’s Institute on Substance Abuse. Team members learned not only about core competencies but also about evidence-based practices, peer supports, and technology. Ms. Stein and Mr. Harris also served as presenters.
