NC STRIVE invites you to join us for our inaugural conference in which we will share best practices to better serve our nation’s veterans, service members, and their family members in seeking higher education.  This cutting edge conference will facilitate statewide emphasis for all levels of higher education to enhance the support of our Veteran’s enrollment and success in school.  Held in the auditorium of the North Carolina National Guard Headquarters in Raleigh, the conference is the culmination of the work of a collaborative partnership between federal and state agencies, institutions of higher education, and nonprofit organizations.

Upon registration, all job seekers will be assigned a Case Manager from NC Works who will serve as your point of contact for the NC4ME Hiring Event. Your Case Manager will help you with the registration process and may ask for additional information. Prior to the event, your Case Manager will send you a list of job openings that you are expected to promptly review and select the openings that you would like to interview for at the event. Your Case Manager will send you an interview schedule the week before the event. Job seekers are expected to wear business attire and arrive 15 minutes prior to the event.

NAMI will be offering six biweekly 2.5 hour sessions for free from June 9 to June 27 at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. Tuesday classes will occur from 6:00-8:30 pm and Saturday classes will occur from 10 am to 12:30 pm. Classes are structured to help family members and caregivers support veterans who are affected by depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other mental health conditions.

Registration is required, and a minimum of 10 individuals need to register in order for the course to run.

On January 13, NPR featured a story on how counties vary in terms of benefits spending for veterans. Where a veteran lives may affect how much money is spent on benefits, including health care. Whereas the national average is $6,088, the average spending per veteran is greater in the NC counties in which the VA Medical Centers are located. On December 8, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Veterans Affairs jointly announced the awarding of additional supportive housing vouchers for homeless Veterans and their families.
